The gantry is a construction tool first developed in the United States in the late 1950s. Because it has the advantages of simple disassembly and assembly, convenient movement, good carrying capacity, safe and reliable use, and good economic benefits, it has developed rapidly. By the 1960s, Europe, Japan and other countries had introduced and developed such scaffolding. In Europe, Japan and other countries or regions, portal frames are used very frequently, accounting for about 50% of all types of scaffolding, and many professional companies have also been established in many countries to produce various portal frame systems.

Since the 1970s, our country has successively introduced the portal frame system from Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom and other countries, and applied it to the construction of some high-rise building projects, with good results. It can not only be used as the internal and external scaffolding of buildings, but also can be used as floor slabs, beam formwork supports and mobile scaffolding, etc. It has many functions, so it is also called multifunctional scaffolding.

In the early 1980s, some domestic manufacturers and manufacturers began to imitate the portal frame. Since 1985, 10 portal scaffolding factories have been established. Portal scaffolding has begun to be widely used in construction projects in some areas and has been welcomed by the majority of construction units. However, due to the different product specifications and quality standards of each factory, it brings certain difficulties to the use and management of the construction unit. At the same time, because the materials and specifications of the steel pipes used in some factories do not meet the design requirements, the rigidity of the mast is small, the weight is large, it is easy to deform during transportation and use, and the processing accuracy is high. Poor, the service life is short, which seriously affects the promotion of the portal frame.

In the 1990s, the portal frame was not yet developed. Instead, it is used less and less in architecture. Many gantry scaffolding factories were closed or remodeled, and only a few factories with good processing quality continued to produce. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a new type of portal frame and put it into use according to the characteristics of our country's buildings.
